Female doctor is accused of sexually assaulting a patient

A female doctor is facing charges in the Florida Keys after an investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a patient, officials said.

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said in a statement that a woman, who identified herself as Dr. Maria Cristina Carrera, has been charged with one count of sexual battery and two counts of aggravated sexual battery, according to local news outlet WPTV.

Carrera, who was also a doctor, has worked at a hospital in the Jacksonville area for six years, the station reported.

The woman is a resident at the St. Thomas Episcopal Medical Center, WPTV said.

She was arrested Tuesday on a warrant for one count each of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and aggravated battery, the outlet reported.

She is being held on $100,000 bond.

A medical ethics board was investigating the alleged assault in September.
